Indecent exposures (or the post where I admit more than I need to)
One of the many ways I’ve been changing my consumption habits is by purchasing non-food items used or made via sustainable business practices. Several months ago I was in the market for bras and I found a company: Decent Exposures that was a shiny, happy company that would satisfy that need.
I am a sport bra type of person. I hate those girly bras with wires and laces and hooks that poke me in the back. Further more, the girly bras cause their residents to bounce around too much which attracts unwanted attention. The bra I bought from Decent Exposures was designed like a sports bra (no hooks or wires). However I soon discovered a problem.
The problem stems from the way my body is constructed. You’ve probably seen those Indian statues of women with ginormous boobs on otherwise normal bodies. Well…the sculpturers weren’t exaggerating. If there is one thing I actively have been working on since puberty, it is trying to hide my identical twins from the variety of creepy people drawn to them. The Decent Exposures bra didn’t do anything to hide them. They also didn’t have extra padding to hide what is often referred to as headlights. And since I’m almost always cold, I didn’t want to look like I was in a permanent state of arousal.
So what does this mean? This means that I’m going to go back to purchasing my bras from companies that hire women to sew these bras padded bras in small, sweaty, crampted quarters with little pay.
While I could just get comfortable with my body and continue supporting shiny, happy companies, I don’t think that is going to happen until I hit menopause.
Update:
I wrote to DE at the suggestion of Sylvia, they got back to me within a few minutes saying this:

So now I have my shiny happy bras. Yay!

I am apparently a 30B. Did you know it is impossible to find bras for a 30B? So then someone recommended I buy 32As. So I did. And ummm … let’s just say that stuff falls out. It’s bad news.

Maybe if you spoke with Decent Exposures directly they could do some “alterations” so to speak. Update us if you find an answer.

Arduous: I have a weird size too. Decent exposure’s bra is actually a perfect fit.
Sylvia: After I posted this post this morning, I felt like an idiot for not contacting the company first before whining. Your comment was enough to get me going. I’ve written to the company and explained what I want. For anyone interested here is what I said:
Subject: Modification of bra
Good afternoon:
I purchased a bra from Decent Exposures awhile back and while
I am happy with the service and turnaround time, am a bit
unhappy with the actual bra. I only thought to write about it
now, as I’d like to buy some new bras soon. As such, I was
wondering if you’d be willing to modify the sporty bra style
as I’d rather purchase my undergarments from a company such as
yours than from a company that profits off of sweat shop
conditions.
I like the sports bra look
example here:
http://www.justiceclothing.com/justice/images/slides/400x400/wj20085_1.jpg
where the owner appears to have just one uniform mound instead
of two separate mounds and a little valley. Additionally, I
like having some extra padding in the nipple area because I
don’t like to look like I am permanently aroused when sitting
in cold rooms at work.
Is this a modification that you’d be willing to make? If there
is a minimum number of bras I need to purchase in order to
make this modification worthwhile for your company, I’m
willing to make a commitment. Let me know what the minimum
number of bras would be as well as the cost of said bras.

I, apparently don’t have the oversize issue(blessing?), especially after nursing two children
I can definitely see how the bra fit-ness is far more important for the luckily more endowed. Best of luck getting a decent happy shining bra.

The only thing wrong with your link was that the bracket ] at the end got included as a part of the link. FYI Just in case that helps you communicate with the company. And, thanks! I’ve been meaning to search out DE for myself, having heard of them years ago but couldn’t quite remember the company name. Now I can place my order too — thanks again.
