I had chard and brussel sprouts for the first time last year. You're right in how we get into a rut when visiting a grocery store. There is some stat on how limiting the American palate (sp?) is and that bothered me. I think potato was the big vegetable that everyone ate.

The more I cook the more I enjoy it. I remember despising the thought of being in a kitchen when I was younger. I was quite the idiot.

The radish salad was most delicious.

Me too! I had never tried collard greens or chard. I'd never had brussels sprouts either or any kind of squash other than summer squash. It turns out I enjoy them all. Shopping in the grocery, it was just too easy to get the same-old, same-old week after week. Eating locally and seasonally really opens up the door to a whole new range of foods and it's so completely exciting!

Plus, I never enjoyed cooking before either. Now, I'm still no chef, but coming home with new veggies has been like getting a new puzzle: "With a little work, I wonder what this could become!"

Enjoy your radish salad!
